Whitehaven

Our series of Spring orienteering events around parks and streets continues this Thursday at Whitehaven. Any non-member is welcome to join us and choose a course to suit. Children can run in pairs or with parents if trying it for the first time. The longer course is a great way for any adult runner to test their navigation. There’ll be plenty of friendly faces around to show you the ropes. For details of this and more, see the Events page.

Well done to everyone who made the journey to snowy (and sunny) South Yorkshire today for the Northern Champs hosted by SYO at Wharncliffe Woods. Congratulations to Issy Sunley (2nd W14), Caitlin Irving (1st W16), Niamh Hunter (2nd W20E), Ash Boothroyd (2nd M10), Joe Hudd (2nd M16), Alastair Thomas (2nd M20E) and Mike Pearson (2nd M75), along with many other top 10 placings. Congratulations also to Charlie and Joe who were part of the England Team which successfully regained the Interland trophy in Northern France this weekend.

Many thanks to organiser Anne Burbidge, planner Mike Harrison and everyone else who helped to put on today's event on the shores of Derwent Water. The usual friendly atmosphere, kind weather and great courses all contributed to another fun WCOC event. Results here - including Routegadget.
LOST & FOUND: a couple of items found. Black and Yellow top left at the Start and a Lowe Alpine black fleece glove at the Finish. Email organiser if yours.

Happy New Year 2019

Many thanks to Helen and Jamie for organising a fun "Club Social" last night at Loweswater Village Hall, and to everyone who contributed games, quizzes and all that delicious food!

Thanks also to Louis who planned today's "Club Chase" at Scale Hill, and to his large a team of helpers who ensured that everything ran smoothly. Well done to Alan for working out handicaps that got the vast majority of runners back near to 12noon.

And last but not least, CONGRATULATIONS to recently joined Nick Evans who held off stiff competition to win the trophy!! (Results now posted)

Last year WCOC won back the Borrowdale Trophy (the inter-club competition for Cumbrian orienteering clubs). Now that all the stats have been crunched from this year's series, it can be announced that WCOC retain the trophy in 2018!

For all the details, see the Galoppen page of the Lakes-O website - this includes Overall Scores for all 10 events, Borrowdale Trophy standings, and (new for 2018!) a Galoppen Overview which provides some extra interesting information.

PP winners 2018

Peter Palmer winners again - another superb effort from all our Juniors! They've only gone and won entries and accommodation at 10Mila 2019 in Skane, Sweden for a WCOC Team. As always many many thanks to all the drivers and helpers, to WCOC for all your support, to SYO for putting on such a great event, to the Junior who returned from Uni and those who delayed going to Uni until after the race! You really are all Best in the West!
